About me and the practice of teaching yoga

Hello, my name is Shairon.

Here at Mind Body Spirit,  I would like to share with you the reasons I am commited to the practice of yoga, meditation and bodywork. Whether we are fit and healthy,  have an injury, general tightness, an illness, or a disability, it matters how we connect mentally with our bodies. This practice brings us back to simplicity and contentment and enables us to concentrate upon and help solve problems of life when they arise whether in body or in personal life. It also enables us to see clearly the beauty and constant miracles all around us, even in chaotic situations. The mind body connection is powerful.  As B.K.S. Iyengar describes it clearly, “it  requires tremendous patience to calm a restless mind which is colored by innumerable past experiences and the accumulated residue of past thoughts and actions.” We then know how above all, to treasure love, moderation and humility. Love begets courage, moderation creates abundance and humility generates power. Courage without love is brutish. Abundance without moderation leads to over-indulgence. Power without humility breeds arrogance. As we practice mindfulness and yoga in respect for the gift of the miraculous body, we return to the source of our being.

I have certifications in Hatha yoga, I combine several different yoga styles for variety. I appreciate  the wonderful teachers that have offered their time, knowledge, and spiritual dedication to the practice of mindfulness and yoga. I  am attending Anusara workshops and retreats  to become a certified Anusara teacher. Anusara is a paradigm for Hatha yoga. It was developed by John Friend. This practice focuses on attitude, mindfulness, strength/stamina, flexibility, alignment/form and playfulness. My hope is that after class, you feel connected to your own goodness, empowered in your own life, revitalized both physically and emotionally, open and grounded.

After eleven years of teaching at fitness centers and renting studios, I now own my studio. It has heated floors, a beautiful retreat here at my home. I welcome you here in this space. As your guide I offer compassion and patience. I will be articulate and , enthusiastic, humorous and inspiring. The journey into your self is at times intense. You may experience fear, discouragement, physical discomfort, and the desire to quit and turn back. Everyone is challenged, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. I will use my interpersonal skills, experience, and technical knowledge to lead you happily to your destination, reminding you to never be attached to the destination of your practice. My success depends on my ability to  connect to the mind, body and spirit of each student. Knowing we have reached that magical place where our hearts open naturally and where we are empowered and filled with self-love. I feel that teaching this practice is a divine privilege and that each student is a teacher and gift.
